The West Virginia Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) is now accepting applications through January 12, 2018. GSA is a free summer arts program that takes place at Marshall University in Huntington, WV over three weeks in the summer of 2018.

Current sophomores enrolled in a West Virginia public or private school are eligible to apply. Students may apply in one of the following categories:

  • Acting
  • Creative Writing
  • Dance—ballet and modern
  • Digital Art—from photo editing to creating virtual games
  • Instrumental Music
  • Studio Art
  • Vocal Music

To apply for GSA, a student must be a resident of West Virginia and attend school within the state, have a GPA average of 2.5 his or her freshman year of high school, have an acceptable attendance and discipline record, be recommended by the school principal, exhibit strong commitment to personal artistic development, and be a sophomore upon the time of application.

West Virginia sophomores who are passionate and committed to their artistic craft will have the wonderful opportunity of improving their skills with the help of talented professional artists and be surrounded by like-minded youth who share the same artistic gifts. In addition, students will travel to Chicago, IL to immerse themselves in the rich culture and art of a vibrant city.
