By: Daerra Stull

Kiersten Knicely is a new resident of Newton, West Virginia. She’s 18 years young and has a passion for twirling. Kiersten first became interested in this when she was a freshman at Calhoun Middle/ High School. She stated that she joined her school’s marching band as a majorette to quit being shy. Her intentions were to gain confidence and to try something new.
Shortly after, she developed a passion for the sport. Kiersten has won multiple state titles for twirling. In fall of 2013, Kiersten was crowned the privileged title of “Miss Majorette” at the Black Walnut Festival Band Competition. Then, Kiersten placed third for Overall Feature Twirler at the Black Walnut Festival. She didn’t stop there, because she placed fourth in the Ripley Viking Festival and over the years won several state medals.
Kiersten has fierce skills when it comes to twirling a baton/ knives/ fire batons in between her fingers. Kiersten’s favorite routines involved her knives. Don’t worry they aren’t real knives! She said you couldn’t do a lot with them, because of how bulky they are, but it was nice to see the reactions on people’s face!KierstenK Kiersten
