Animal WhisperBy: Daerra Stull

Lilly Helmick is 46 years old, but is still a young kid at heart. She now resides in Newton, West Virginia. As a young girl she grew up on a farm in Braxton County, WV. She developed a sense of compassion and love towards all the animals on the farm. Lilly’s attachment to the animals was difficult, knowing that one day the one animal she raised on a bottle would be her family’s next meal or go to the stock market, although, her mother did let her keep most of her favorites.
Lilly started shearing sheep when she was very young. That sparked a little fire inside her. As she grew older, she taught herself how to groom cats and dogs and all of the pets in between. Lilly has groomed pets for over 16 years now. She previously owned a successful pet shop in Gassaway, West Virginia. She obtained her Exotic Pet License, which permitted her to own virtually any animal she wanted, if she wanted the price that went with it. Lilly whole-heartedly believes that every child should have a pet; it teaches them responsibility for the animal and others.
