Fox BobCatBy Amber Bass
During this time of year, most boys will be participating in basketball and Ganon Osborne used to do the same, until, he caught the fever for trapping. Osborne is in the fourth grade at Big Otter Elementary School and his hobby is unlike most of his peers.
“Gannon is dedicated to trapping” say Kari Osborne, Gannon’s mother. “When he comes home from school, it’s straight to checking his traps.” Gannon started trapping about a year ago and has been hooked ever since. He catches possums, skunks, raccoons, foxes red and grey, and his most recent, a bobcat. Box traps and foot traps are just a couple of the traps of the trade. To fuel his passion he sells the furs to local taxidermists. His bobcat went for upwards of $150.00 and foxes for around $45.00. The money will go to supplies, bait and more traps. Gannon has no regrets about leaving basketball and shares his hobby with his classmates.
