Viewers will soon have another option for local news when Eyewitness News at 6:30 debuts on WVAH/FOX11 on Monday, March 7th.  Harold Cooper, General Manager of WCHS/WVAH-TV made the announcement.
“We are pleased to offer a new opportunity for viewers who aren’t able to watch a local newscast at 6pm because of commuting, work, or family,” said Cooper. “It’s also the only local news alternative for those who don’t want to watch national newscasts at 6:30pm.”
The new 30-minute newscast will feature Eyewitness News anchors Rick Lord and Whitney Wetzel, Storm Team Chief Meteorologist Jim Barach, and Eyewitness News Sports Director Mark Martin.
“We’ve always been the innovators of local news opportunities on FOX 11,” said Cooper. “We were first to start a local newscast at 10pm. We continue to be the only live, local newscast from 7am-8am weekday mornings. Now, we’ll be the only station broadcasting local news, weather and sports at 6:30pm.”
“The addition of this newscast will be a huge benefit for viewers during breaking live news and severe weather,” said Chris Swope, News Director for Eyewitness News. “It will allow us to keep updating stories and dangerous weather coverage from Eyewitness News at 6pm on WCHS-TV8.”
In 2015, Eyewitness News was named “Best Newscast” by the West Virginia Broadcasters Association and “Outstanding News Operation of the Virginias” by the Virginias Associated Press.
