The Clay County Landmarks Commission and Historical Society met in the Clay County Library on September 7. Present were Sandra Claybrook, Jeanine Samples, Lenora Pettit, Marlene Potasnik, Eloise Boggs, President Jerry Stover, Betty B. Robinson, Jim Miller and Danny Dawson.
Stover called the meeting to order. The minutes of the August meeting were approved after the following addition: “Bill and Margaret Agar and others associated with the Mormon Church took many files of records home, drying these and later bringing them to the Old Courthouse. The Society is very grateful for their contribution.  Karen Walker spent nine days in Clay, helping with the flood recovery activities. Karen Walker, Ph.D., is Research Scientist/Collection Manager, South Florida Archeology and Ethnography Program with the Florida Museum of Natural  History, University of Florida.”
Miller gave the treasurer’s report.
President’s Report
1. Paul Jones, Clay County native now living in the state of Washington, offered a few months ago to send us a starter kit, which he was preparing for beginning genealogists. Copies would be sent to the Historical Society for distribution, for a small fee, at the Apple Festival. In recent communication with Paul, he indicated that these would be mailed to us this week.
2. Flood Recovery Update: Great effort has been made by many people to help us recover and salvage what could be saved. We especially thank Karen Walker who came from Florida and helped so much during the nine days she was here, not only with hands-on assistance but also in giving guidance as to how to continue recovery activities. The $2,000 grant money for which she applied, has been approved and will be spent solely for restoration of audio-visual items.
3. Cassette Tape restoration: Progress has been made in cleaning up the tapes which were “victims” of the flood waters, and results look promising. However, we are not ready to make a full assessment at this date. We are hopeful!
Old Business
1. The Apple Festival: It was decided that the Historical Society will have an area reserved for Saturday only. Sandy, Betty, Marlene and Eloise indicated that they could attend.
2. Danny has been working on a Historical Society website, which he showed to members present. It can be accessed by opening any web browser ( Firefox, Interner, Explorer, Chrome) and go to Http://Wildman.ddns.net/chsnew.
New Business
1. Cindy Curry has requested that she be allowed to write a grant proposal for a Historical Society project. This is associated with a class assignment for a course. The Society will propose the project. Jerry will confer with Cindy.
2. Reminder of the Alumni Luncheon at Hardings Family Restaurant, Wednesday noon, September 14. A recent issue of  Now & Then will be given to each attendee.
Adjournment
Next Meeting: Wednesday, October 5, 1 p.m., old courthouse
Eloise Boggs, Recorder
