On Tuesday May 19, 2015, the Board of Education held their regular bimonthly meeting. The board members approved the agenda and minutes from the previous meeting. The revised proposed Levy order and rates for 2015-2016 school year, which also includes the Library rate, was approved. The preliminary budget for 2015-2016 was also approved. The appointment of School Business Official, Kevin Isaacs as Treasurer for Clay County Board of Education for FY 2015. The resignation of Stephanie Paxton as 2nd grade teacher at Clay Elementary School effective June 4, 2015 and the resignation of Erica Samples as 4th grade teacher at Clay Elementary School, effective June 30, 2015 was approved. the in school transfer of Tammy Varney at Clay Elementary from 3rd grade teacher to 4th grade teacher at Clay Elementary; the in school transfer of Sarabeth Monk and Clay Elementary from 5th grade teacher to 3rd grade teacher at Clay Elementary; and the in school transfer of Alicia Holcomb at Clay Elementary from Multiple Disabilities Resource Teacher to 5th grade at Clay Elementary were all approved.
The board then approved all of the following: the transfer of Dawn Salisbury at Clay Elementary from 3rd grate teacher to 4th grade teacher, the in school transfer of Jessica Ramsey at Clay Middle School from ½ Multiple Disabilities Resource at Clay Middle School and ½ Clay County High School to Multiple Disabilities Resource Teacher at Clay Middle School; the transfer of Crystal Gibson from English Language Arts Teacher to Assistant Principal at Clay County High School; and the retirement of Jeffery H. Krauklis as 3rd grade teacher at Clay Elementary School, effective June 30, 2015. Chelsie Dorsey was approved to be employed for the Multiple Disabilities Resource Teacher at Clay Elementary School, effective immediately for the 2014-2015 school year, she was then approved for the in school transfer from Multiple Disabilities Resource Teacher at Clay Elementary School to 2nd grade teacher, effective June 4, 2015, and then the transfer of Ms. Dorsey from 2nd grade teacher to 3rd grade teacher, effective for the 2015-2016 school year was approved.
The employment of Grayson Hamrick as Multiple Disabilities Resource Teacher at Clay Elementary, effective immediately for the 2014-2015 school year and the transfer of Grayson Hamrick from Multiple Disabilities Resource Teacher to 1st grade teacher at Clay Elementary, effective for the 2015-2016 school year. Elizabeth Taylor’s reassignment as teacher at Clay Middle School to Resource Teacher at Clay Elementary School, effective for the 2015-2016 school year was approved. The transfer of Andrea Cassie Titus from Title I teacher at H.E. White Elementary to Title I teacher at Big Otter Elementary, effective for the 2015-2016 school year was approved. The board then approved the transfer for Michelle Hamrick from teacher at CCMS to a Multiple Disabilities Resource Teacher at Big Otter Elementary, effective for the 2015-2016 school year. The board then had an item on the agenda for the employment/transfer of a Math teacher at CCHS, Mackenzie Langman’s former position, tabled until the next meeting. The employment of Julie Greenlee as a Multiple Disabilities Resource Teacher at CCHS, effective immediately was approved. Then, Lorna Truman’s former position of Multiple Disabilities Resource Teacher was then filled by Thomas Cooper from Agricultural Science Teacher at CCHS, effective June 15, 2015. The board then approved Toni Holcomb as a substitute teacher, effective immediately.
Pat Legg, substitute bus driver, as needed for the duration of a regular bus driver’s absence, for bus operator #72 was approved. The board approved the out of county/overnight stay for CCHS FFA students and chaperones to attend FFA State Competition in Morgantown, June 2-4, 2015. There are a total of 30 kids going on this trip. Then, the board approved annual contracts with RESA III for Medicaid processing, Audiology services, E-Rate. Those amounts can vary month to month. Camp for Clay County Students sponsored by Northgate Church scheduled for July 5-11, 2015, and the use of the facilities at CCHS were approved. And, the HOPE (Ministry of Charleston Catholic High School) scheduled for June 14-20, 2015 and the use of the facilities at CCHS was approved. The lease agreement with Lessor, David S. Derby and Julia J. Triplett and Lessee, Clay County Board of Education and H.E. White Elementary school was approved. The board members then gathered for an executive session which resulted in a student at CCHS being expelled for the remainder of the year, and pending mandatory anger management counseling with a signed written statement before being allowed to return to school next year.
The resignation/retirement of Dr. R. B. Legg, Jr. as Board of Education member, effective May 31, 2015 was then approved. Dave Mullins, board member was then elected President for Clay County Board of Education, and that was approved. Dave Mullins will remain board president until the next election, term runs from June 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016. The board has 30 days to appoint a new member to fill the vacant spot.
Also, during the board meeting, two members of the FBLA, Gracen Samples and Chase Massey, presented a slideshow to the members of the board and the guests at the meeting regarding Identity Theft.
