CCHS Student Honored at the Cultural Center

By Betty Lee

Local Clay County High School student Maris Adkins has taken her jewelry making business to an all new level. Maris received the Junior Ace Award through the WV Executive Magazine.  This Junior was honored at a ceremony at the Cultural Center after being nominated by Virginia McCormick.

Maris began making earrings for herself in late 2019.  What started as just a stress reliever turned into an Etsy business in 2020 when she opened Anomaly8Designs. The shop offers fun, unique, quirky earrings at affordable prices. The shop is open to everyone, but Maris is passionate about catering to the LGBTQ community.

Orders from the shop started out at 10 or so a day, after a Tik Tok featuring the business gained traction that number jumped to 50-60 orders daily.  That is when the business became a family affair for anyone with an extra set of hands.  Maris’s mother quit her job to assist in running the business, and although Maris says the work is hard, she says it is necessary and she is grateful for for experiences.

You can check out her Etsy shop at Anomaly8Desings.
