The weather cooperated with the Wallback Lake Youth Fishing Derby held on April 19, 2014. It was a beautiful day for the young sportsmen to be outdoors. Young Sportsmen from: Jackson County (1), Fayette County (1), Logan County (1), Braxton County (4), Nicholas County (7), Roane County (18), Kanawha County (20), Calhoun County (34), Clay County (129), totaling 215 sportsmen. The WVDNR furnished the trout and the net. Several fish were caught throughout the morning
The Casting and Turkey Calling contest was held at the Shooting Range. It was sponsored by the Big Knob Hunting Club and Buffalo Creek Watershed.

Joe is a member of the Wild Turkey Federation and also teaches in Clay, Upshur and Kanawha Counties in the Trout Classroom Program. Jerry Duffield, Wildlife Manager in WVDNR, demonstrated on how to measure a 2 year old black bear. Cheryl Jackson and Melinda Samples, with the Tobacco Coalition, talked and played games with the sportsmen.
