After weeks of snow, ice, sleet and rain, the conditions are not improving much. A band of freezing rain moved through parts of the area on Sunday morning making travel extremely treacherous for some. Clay Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a number of wrecks in the county, the majority of those on Route 4 between Clay and Ivydale. One such driver, Russell McKinney was very fortunate when his S-10 pickup truck rolled over an embankment below Spread Park and was caught by a tree which prevented the vehicle from plunging into the Elk River below. McKinney and his granddaughter received bumps and bruises in the accident and were released from the hospital later in the day. State Road crews treated the area quickly and no serious injuries were reported as a result of the icy roads.
