super saturday 2By Holly Nine

Families and kids from all across the county were excited for this past Saturday to arrive. Super Saturday was the kick off for this season of Little League games. To start off the games, there was an opening ceremony and the Little League President, Greg Sizemore led the players in the little league pledge and then a prayer. Then, Rebecca Workman, sister of the late Trooper Eric Workman introduced the ‘Strike out Drugs’ pledge with the Eric Workman Foundation. The Strike out Drugs pledge is encouraging the kids to say “No” to drugs and help the Eric Workman foundation Strike out Drugs in Clay County. Rebecca said “Eric knew how to hit a home run! And he also knew how to say “No to drugs.” Eric loved baseball and he played many games on the same fields in Dundon as these little players are playing on. Eric finished his baseball career at West Virginia State University as an outfielder and a pitcher. Eric’s nephew, Aiden King, threw the first pitch to open the games for the season. The Eric Workman Foundation handed out water bottles with the Strike out Drugs logo on it and a little bag of sweets with a coupon from Gino’s to each child as they finished their games.
