What started as a suggestion from a member of the West Virginia Auxiliary of Wives Behind the Badge became a nationwide movement to show support for law enforcement officers on Friday, December 19. The Step Out in Blue campaign went viral on social media as a Facebook page was established and the hashtag #StepOutInBlue made its way across Twitter. Over 23,000 invitations were sent to be a part of the movement and supporters of the event formed groups to back the project. Blue was the color of the day on Friday, as wives, husbands, sons, daughters, siblings, parents and friends donned blue attire in support of the men and women who serve and protect us.
