As we look back on another successful tournament, we are humbled by the generosity of so many. The 2nd Annual Eric Workman Memorial Muskie Fishing Tournament was held June 7, 2014. This year also marked the start of the annual youth fishing tournament, held May 31 – June 6, 2014. The tournament brought in over $6,000 this year to be used to promote Muskie fishing throughout the State.

Pat Schoolcraft, a long-time friend of Eric’s, won this year’s tournament by bringing in four Muskies, measuring 42 1/2”, 41”, 34” and 43 1/2” each. Last year’s winner Jason Statts took second place, Jay Carper took third and Jonathan Paine took biggest fish with a massive Muskie. The youth tournament winners started off with big catches of their own. Emilea Holcomb took the top spot in the 11-14 category with 25” carp. Caleb Myers brought in his first Muskie to take top honors in the 10 and under category. Overall there were 128 main tournament registrations and 25 youth registrations.

2014 also marks the creation of the Trooper Eric Workman Foundation (www.eworkman.org). The Foundation is in the process of filing for non-profit status as a 501(c)3 organization. As we put the funds raised through the tournament to good use, we will post information about the projects on the Foundation’s website.

The family of Trooper Workman and the board members of the Trooper Eric Workman Foundation sincerely thank all of those that took part in the tournament. Special thanks go out to all the sponsors that donated items and trips. The tournament will always fall on the first Saturday in June, so mark your 2015 calendars now! The youth tournament will be the week proceeding again.
