A petition entitled “Save Our Sheriff Miles Slack” is circulating within local businesses and offices. It reads, “We the undersigned citizens of Clay County, West Virginia, support our Sheriff, Miles Slack, 100%. We all make mistakes and at times need a second chance.”
Dorma Moore, close friend and supporter of Sheriff Slack started the petition when she became aware of Slack’s charges. “The Slacks are great people and Miles is a good Christian man. Everyone makes mistakes in life. I just felt so bad that such a good person made a mistake out of love and might have to pay with his job” says Moore. “We have about 500 names so far, with a few more papers left in the community to pick up. I think he should be given a second chance. We all make mistakes and we all judge. We need to watch how we are judging one another because we all will be judged in the end.”
Moore is an avid Christian and holds strong to her faith. “I would like to remind everyone of a verse, John 8:7. “So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” Though Slack’s future is unclear, his federal court date is set September 17, 2013.
