Mt. Zion Drive-In in danger of closing

In neighboring Calhoun County, the only drive in movie theater in the region is in danger of shutting down. The Mt. Zion Drive in Theater uses 35 mm film to project movies onto the big screen each weekend, but the elimination of the 35mm product means the theater would have to convert to digital projection, which is near impossible due to the overwhelming costs associated with the transition.
You can help prevent this nostalgic theater from closing its doors forever. Project Drive-In, a national effort sponsored by Honda, is working hard to keep timeless drive-ins open. At www.projectdrivein.com, people can vote to determine which five drive-in theatres in the United States will receive a new digital projector from Honda, free of charge. Voting on www.projectdrivein.com will take place from August 9 to September 9. The five winning theatres will be revealed in September and each will host a celebration. Share the Project Drive-in information with family and friends and spread the word through social media, email and texts to ensure Mt. Zion Drive-In is supported by our community.
“We need everyone to vote and show support for our drive in, otherwise our screen will go dark. We have provided a family destination for over 63 years and 3 generations of memories have been made here. It would be a shame not to be able to continue the tradition for future generations. Thanks to Honda, our community and patrons have the opportunity to show their support by texting in Vote8 to 444999, or voting online.” said Bonnie Sands, Manager at Mt Zion Drive In.
An iconic American past time needs your help to stay open! Please go online today to keep the movies rolling at Mt Zion Drive In, a safe destination for family fun and entertainment.
