On Aug. 7, the Golden Delicious Festival committee met and voted on our new 2025 Golden Delicious Belle. There were four nominations this year, and it is with great pleasure to announce our 2025 Belle, Mrs. Frances Sutton, at age 92. Frances was nominated by her daughter in law, Catrina Neal Sutton.
Frances is from Hansford Fork, Maysel, WV and has been a lifelong resident of Clay County. She is most deserving to serve as our Golden Delicious Belle.
Frances was born August 17, 1933, the daughter of Mattie Boggs Davis and Okey Davis. She was raised on her mother and dad’s poultry farm on Hansford Fork. She was a graduate of Clay County High School, Class of 1951. After graduation she married the love of her life, Glenn Sutton and they moved to Ohio, then later moved back to the farm on Hansford Fork, Clay County. Together they raised two children, Sherry and Rodrick. She has six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Frances worked at the Clay County Courthouse in the Circuit Clerks Office and retired with 15 years of service. She loves to read her daily bible devotions, watch her hummingbirds eat and enjoys sewing her beautiful scrap quilts.
Frances is most deserving! Congratulations Frances as our New 2025 Golden Delicious Apple Belle.
