Gospel Music has always been a favorite part of the golden delicious festival. The 2013 festival schedule has gospel music set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday at different intervals.
Friday, before and after noon, the Contemporary Gospel group, “New Journey” (Sebrina Grose, Josh Holcomb and Jeremy Moore) will have their first debut on the festival stage. This youthful gospel music style is now the favorite for large scale concerts in our region. On Friday, at 5:00 p.m., the band “Sunday Morning” will perform with styles ranging from bluegrass, hymns and southern gospel. Last year during the festival Jordan Asbury was looking for a band to play with. He was eager to learn and have the chance to share his musical abilities with Clay County. This year, he will get that opportunity as he bring his mandolin to the festival stage with the family harmonies of Pam Drake, Elizabeth Davis, Angela and Logan Drake.
Saturday brings the Child Evangelism Fellowship with the VBS style kid’s program with music, crafts, testimonies and dog tricks. Sarah Brown has visited the festival for several years and is excited to present this children’s program.
Sunday Gospel Sings have been common at the festival for about 10 years and brings quartets and other gospel music artists. Doug and Megan Paxton began singing about four years ago and sing both Southern Gospel and Contemporary gospel music styles and often include their kids in their music presentation. Joined by The Fishmen Quartet, Divine Hope, the Brighterside Quartet the Sunday gospel music program will mark the end of the 40th annual festival event.
