Drug Take-Back Day nets fifty pounds of prescription medications

October 26 was the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA’s) National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. Deputy Chris Davis was outside the Clay County Courthouse on Saturday from 10 am until 2 pm to collect expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs that are potentially dangerous if left in a family’s medicine cabinet.
Citizens of Clay turned in around fifty pounds of prescription medication at the drop off location! By properly disposing of unused and expired medications, a life may have been saved and a crime may have been prevented.
Since the Drug Enforcement Agency began hosting the take back events in September 2010, more than 2 million pounds of prescription drugs have been turned in at drop-off locations throughout the country. The drug take back days occur twice a year but if you have unwanted prescription medication at home and can not wait until the next scheduled event, drugs can be taken to the Clay County Sheriff’s Department at any time for disposal.
