The Clay County Commission met Wednesday for the second time in the month August. With a full room, the commissioners passed the customary agenda items of bills, purchase orders, assessments, minutes and the settling of estates.

Terry Martin, of the Intergovernmental Regional Council, was on hand to discuss the upcoming Pack Fork and Independence Road water line extension project. Martin informed the commissioners that the project is on schedule and that the engineer is currently working on design, which should be finished by the end of the year. The projected start date for the construction phase of the project is spring of 2015 with an estimated completion date near the end of 2015. The commissioners voted to sign an agreement for administrative services between themselves and the Regional Intergovernmental Council for the project. The payment of invoices relating to design, construction and other services for the Pack Fork project were also approved.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department is once again understaffed after the resignation of Deputy Tony McGlothlin. With the department for a little over a year, McGlothlin’s resignation was effective August 26, 2014. With only two deputies currently on payroll, Sheriff Samples confirms McGlothlin’s vacancy will be filled.

E911 Communication Director Denver Brown is also resigning from his current role in the 911 communication center. Seeking other avenues in his emergency service career, Denver will continue to be a part of the community, working as a substitute dispatcher as well as the Information Technologist for the station. Applications for the 911 Director position were accepted through August 29. The Commission will meet on September 3 to review the applicants and begin the interviewing process. Denver will remain as interim director until the position is filled.

The Clay County Commission will meet next on September 10 at 10:00 am.
