After two separate incidents, eight people from Clay County are in jail facing methamphetamine related charges.

The Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department made a traffic stop Monday at the forks of Peach Orchard Road and Glen Oaks Drive near Summersville. During a search of the vehicle involved, deputies found meth making materials inside. The four suspects in the vehicle, James Preston McCune, 32, of Maysel, Della Gay Legg, 36, of Clay, Tasha Renae Neal, 29, of Clay and Kimberly Marie Phillips, 26, of Maysel were all arrested and transported to Central Regional Jail.

Later that same evening, the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department contacted WV State Police in Clay County about a possible meth lab on Locust Manor Road. Upon arrival at the mobile home, Troopers found the front door of the home partially open and smelled the odor of meth. Once inside the home, officers found multiple items used in conjunction with the manufacturing meth. Four people in the home, Levi Byler, 24, of Clendenin, Christina Murdock, 39, of Clay, Franklin Legg, 41, of Clay and Douglas Mitchell, 40 of Clay were arrested and charged with operating a methamphetamine lab, having Sudafed in an altered state and conspiracy. These suspects were also transported to Central Regional Jail where they remain on bond.
