Wrestling is just around the corner.

By Allen Hamrick

The CCMS Mustang wrestling dynasty will be under the leadership of the new head coach TJ Legg.  This year’s team  will definitely be stacked with some powerhouse wrestlers returning from last year’s team.
It may be the year of the Mustangs on the mats, and their glory from years past when they were feared and respected will once again be the normal. Coach Legg’s  no-nonsense approach to the sport will give the Mustangs the edge at the tournaments.  Geoff Hamrick also returns as head coach of the  CCHS Panthers.
With the number of wrestlers who have signed up for the sport, it looks as though the CCHS Panthers will possibly have a full team to hit the mats. With wrestling being one of the toughest sports, many bail out and leave only the toughest athletes standing. Coach Geoff Hamrick, who has toured Tough Mudder challenges which require brutal game winning training tactics, brings his form of high intensity work outs to practice. He is not a coach that dictates the workout; he trains right alongside his team. These training methods are not for the faint of heart, and only the cream of the crop can withstand the intensity.
CCHS’s finest will step up to the challenge this week to show what their made of. They are challenged every practice in the techniques of wrestling and with learning new and improved methods. They live by the rule that Patrick Henry uttered a long time ago during a time when honor and teamwork meant something in this country, “The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.”
So, when their adversary seems to be greater, the Panther wrestling will break out the knuckle drag and settle into the business of pummeling. There is no doubt that whoever makes the team will hold up high the honor and tradition of Clay County High School Wrestling by giving one hundred percent to the six minutes on the floor.
When you get opportunity this season, get out and support them. They may very well be the last of a breed of youth that can handle the extremes of wrestling dominance, as only the strong can handle it. They are the front line of unbending fury; they are your CCHS Panther and CCMS Mustang wrestling teams.
