In sports this week, baseball and softball teams from CCHS and CCMS hit the field with some highs and lows on the diamond. Once again, the weather played a role in the games and most were cancelled. Between the cold and the warm and the wet and dry, a couple of games were held.
The Lady Panther softball team managed to get one in while the sun was briefly out. Even though they had some good offense against Oak Hill, they were bested by one point with the final score being Clay 11- Oak Hill 12. The Panther baseball team hit the field against Doddridge County and brought out the heavy sticks, taking both games in the double header. Thomas Haverty took the hill in the first game with his big gun and cleaned up. He was the winning pitcher with Levi Hosey coming in for the save. Colton Moore rattled the pitcher for Doddridge and went 3-3 with 2 RBI’s. Jack Edwards went 2-3 with a couple of RBI’s, and Corey Elswick went 3-4 with 2 RBI’s. Luke Burnette also went 3-4.
In the second game, it was Matt Boggs preaching English from the mound, and Doddridge had no chance of passing his class. Caleb Burdette came in for the save. Boggs also had the whipping stick out and went 3-3 in the game, driving in six runs. Colton Moore had a triple going 2-3 and 3 RBI’s. Luke Burnette went 2-3 and 1 RBI. Thomas Haverty went 2-3 with an RBI, while Colton Pritt went 2-5 and Corey Elswick went 2-4 with 3 RBI’s between them.
The Panthers won the first game by the score of Clay 10-9 and the second game 20-3. Both the Lady Panthers and Panther ball teams will be in action four games this week, and the weatherman seems to think that spring will return at the end of the week. So, if you get the opportunity, get out and catch a game. The CCMS teams have had a hard time getting games in as well, but they will be in action two days this week. Check your schedules for game times.
