To catch up on the Lady Mustangs season they met their Waterloo the week before last as they came face to face with a juggernaut as they took on the Lady Knights of Braxton County. In their first meeting this season, the Lady Mustangs took it to the Lady Knights and defeated them on Lady Mustang turf. However, for the Lady Knights it was game on. Every time these two teams meet, it promises to be a barn burner. At the end of the first half of play, the Lady Knights were up on the Lady Mustangs 19 to 20. In the second half, the Lady Mustangs fought hard, but the wicked witch put a hex on the net and points were as hard to get as a thousand dollar bill. The Lady Mustangs kept it close with some great shooting from Virginia Haverty who dropped eight points in the second half and led the Lady Mustangs in scoring with 14 points. It looked like the Lady Mustangs had a chance late in the game to even up the score but some missed opportunities to get some points on the board were in the history books as time ran out in the game. When the smoke cleared, it was the Lady Knights on top 31-37 giving the Lady Mustangs their second loss of the season. These two teams will possibly meet again this season if the basketball bounces right, and it will be a game you won’t want to miss. The neighboring teams each have each beaten the other this season, and it is possible that the CVACC championship game will be the tie breaker. If so get your tickets now because it will be a scorcher. The CCMS JV team also played a whale of a game beating the Lady Knights JV team in overtime by a score of 21-18. The Lady Mustangs rebounded this past week defeating both teams they played. Most of the games will possibly be rescheduled due to winter storm Jonas, so if the thaw comes this week, get out and catch a game. The winter sports’ seasons are winding down, and spring training is just around the corner.
