The championship trophy hopes for the CCMS basketball franchise, both Lady Mustang and Mustang teams, ended at the hands of the Lady Knights of Braxton and the Summersville Bears.
The Lady Mustangs started their tournament against South Harrison early in the week in the first round. For the Lady Hawks, it was like throwing snowballs at a forest fire against the lady Mustangs. Danae Stricker was turned loose on the net and racked up 13 points followed by Kinley Collins with 10 of her own. When the numbers were tallied, the Lady Mustangs took the first-round game by the score of 51-16. They then travelled to Lady Knights real estate and fought a tough game but ended their season with a loss by the score of 26-31. Overall, it was a good season for the Lady Mustangs, and they will be back next season to give it another whirl. Grabbing All Conference awards was Marissa Atha and Kinley Ramsey, while Aubree Legg earned All-Tournament recognition.
The Mustangs had to go up against one of the toughest teams they faced all season, the Summersville Bears, in their first round of the tournament. It would prove to be a tough pill to swallow for the Mustangs as they just couldn’t overcome the shooting of the Bears. When the dust settled it was the Bears over the Mustangs 47-16. Grabbing All Conference recognition for the Mustangs was Gunner Dobbins and Ryder McMillion. Earning the All-Tournament award was Trenton Parker.
