Panthers were smoking the diamond this past week

Logan Morton took the mound for the Mustangs.

By Allen Hamrick

The Panthers have been shaking the dust on the diamond this past week winning four out of five games. First up was Midland Trail, the game that got it all started for the Panthers’ winning streak. Midland Trail couldn’t handle the bats or the pitching of the Panthers and went down in flames 11-1. Calhoun Red Devils were up next, and the Panthers pinched the tines off their forks and set them on the straight and narrow with the Panthers winning 10-5. Then the games got a little more challenging for the Panthers as they butted heads with Ravenswood.

The Panthers got the ball rolling in the first inning by scoring three runs and then added another in the second making the score 4-0. Ravenswood, on the other hand, was trying to overcome a drought with the bats. They finally got it figured out in the fourth inning as they plastered Panther pitching with five runs. The Panthers started having their own problems finding a hit, but in the top of the sixth inning they had a three-run spurt that closed the lid on Ravenswood; Panthers win 7-6.

Poca was up next and came out swinging in the 1st inning to show their muscle early by racking up four runs. The Panthers answered with one of their own, so it was “ketchup” ball for the next few innings as Panther bats went to sleep. That was until they woke like a hungry bear in the sixth and started adding to the board. That inning plus a three-run inning in the seventh sent the Dots packing, Panthers win again 10-7.

Finally on Saturday, the Panthers faced the Logan Wildcats, well known for being an aggressive and well-ordered team. This game was destined to end the streak of the Panthers as the Wildcats scored big early and never looked back. The final score was Panthers 3, Wildcats 15. Panther baseball will have three games this week with two of them being at home on Tuesday and Thursday. Come out and support the Panthers.

Trenton Parker gets the out at 1st.
