The Panther basketball team wore out the rolling pins this week flattening the Red Devils from Calhoun in two separate games. First, they had the Red Devils’ head in the guillotine early in the week – simply put, the Red Devils didn’t know what hit them. It was nothing short of a turkey shoot for the Panthers as three of them went into double digits. Offense was the name of the game in this fire storm. Michael Foster exploded with 16 points. Joel Elliott and Spencer Faulkner spread their points across the field, scoring 12 each.
Both teams came out firing hot in the first period with the Panthers on top 16 to 9, and that was about it for the Red Devils. During the second period, the Panthers turned on the defense and allowed only six points for Calhoun while they, themselves, opened the firing with 26 points to lead going into the half 42-15. Bottom line – the Panthers didn’t slow down a bit in all four periods. They consistently scored with precision. The Panthers finished on top with the score 72-27.
For the second game, the Panthers were on the road and headed to the Red Devils’ play pen hoping to resume their thumping of the Red Devils. The Red Devils were a little more prepared this time, but against the Panthers they may as well eat soup with a fork The Red Devils were firing on all cylinders but were losing steam. They just couldn’t keep up the pace of the Panthers, and the game ended with the Panthers on top by the score of 79- 52. The Panthers will be on the road this week, depending on the weather, against Nicholas and Roane counties on Feb. 12 and 13 and back at home on Feb. 14 against Poca. Go Panthers!
