The CCHS Panthers travelled to Sissonville to take on the Indians Friday night. It was a much anticipated game as the hosting Indians were ranked 5th in the state in AA football. The Panthers came in with all their weapons blazing and absolutely nothing to lose. The Indians drew first blood on the first drive of the game scoring on a long run of 76 yards. This didn’t phase the Panthers as they came right back with a score of their own on a 10 yard run by Tyler Stewart. The offensive line opened huge holes for the runners and gave Quarterback Tyler Stewart good time to throw the ball against a tough Sissonville defense. Jordan Lucas capitalized on those holes, also, with two touchdown runs of 50 plus yards and was over 200 yards in rushing.
The Panthers looked as though they were going to upset the ranked Sissonville by leading the game through three quarters with the score of 19-18. With all the Panther arsenal, they kept the Sissonville defense guessing. Sissonville added a couple of TD’s late in the fourth quarter to give Sissonville the win. Simply put, the Panthers played a great game and have nothing to hang their head about. I will also add that the fourth quarter should give rise to the idea of instant replay in high school football; this game may have turned out differently. However, with that being said, my hat is off to the players and the coaches of the CCHS Panther team. They played as hard as a team could play and have nothing to doubt themselves over. Next week’s game is away at Ravenswood. Let’s get behind the Panthers and come home with a win.
