Great goal line defense by the Mustangs.

The CCMS Mustangs played host to Princeton this past Thursday night on a very damp and cold October evening. That, however, didn’t dampen the spirits of the Mustangs; it only strengthened their resolve to win as bad weather and football just seem to go together. Princeton came into town putting on the ritz with all the flair of a professional team. The Mustangs, led by coach Jared Fitzwater, got down to the business of football and did not let intimidation play a factor in the game. The Mustang defense was like a wall covered with Kevlar, and Princeton just couldn’t penetrate the line or the secondary.
The Mustangs’ only flaw came late in the fourth quarter when a second string runner came in, took it to the bank and scored the only touchdown for Princeton. Other than that, it was all Mustangs. Alex Grose capitalized on a fumble recovery to draw first blood for the Mustangs. The next score came on a Grose pass to Issac Workman for the touchdown. All of the boys on offense had a great game as they moved the ball downfield, kept possession of the ball and took time off the clock – a well executed game.
There were a couple of goal line stances where all the Mustangs were involved in the pursuit of the football and shut down the chances for a Princeton TD. The line for the Mustangs was tight, closing ranks and stopping up the holes all through the game. Princeton tried to take the ball to the outside but there was no room. The Mustangs spread across the field like the plague and shut down the Princeton offense. With the band cranking out the adrenalin pumping tunes, cheerleaders in a frenzy, and fans busting their lungs, Princeton became just another check off on the Mustang bucket list of things to get done. The final score was Mustangs 14 and Princeton 8. Next up on the list is Homecoming night for the Mustangs, and they will play host to Spencer. A win against Spencer will possibly send the Mustangs into the championship game. So, come on out Thursday night and support the 2013 Mustangs and their royalty as the 2013 regular season ends.
