The CCHS Panthers basketball team continues to play all out basketball on the road and at home; however, a win this week was tough as nails to get. In most of the games this season, the boys have been in the hunt for the win but seem to come up a paddle short in the boat at the end of the game. The boys had three games on the maple this week, and first up was Frankfurt. The Panthers needed a big win after their loss to Doddridge. They went at it tooth and nail and the score went back and forth, but Frankfurt pulled ahead and never looked back to win the game 59-28. It was a tough loss for the Panthers as baskets were harder to get than a gold silver dollar.
Next up was Calhoun, and here is where the Panthers would get back on track, or at least they hoped their luck would change. The game started out with Calhoun swinging for the chin to take an early lead in the first period. Down by five points, Micah Osborne went to work under the boards and started a run for top shot. The Panthers took a slim one point lead at the half as the defense also picked up their game; at the half it was 28-27 Panthers. Afterwards, the game progressed as both teams went nearly basket for basket, but the Panthers still kept the lead by six at the end of the third. Calhoun read a new play book in the fourth period and came out looking like the bulls. The Panthers offense hung in there nearly basket for basket, and in the end, the Red Devils scored 21 points in the period. But, it wasn’t enough as the Panthers held on to win by the score of 61-58. Micah Osborne hit for 20 points in the game while Ayden Brown had 13. The Panthers took that win to Braxton on Thursday night, and it wasn’t a game the Panthers wanted to follow up with. The Panthers played catch up ball the whole game and just simply ran out of time as they lost to the Eagles 46-65. It was a tough loss after beating Braxton in the first game of the season. The boys will be in action again and will take to the hardwood on the road at Sissonville this Tuesday, January 24th and back at home against Buffalo on Thursday. If you get the chance, come out and catch a Panther game.
