The Panther wrestling team participated in their first match of the season at Richwood in the Lee Parlier Duals tournament.

Eight teams went head to head on the mats as egos were made and busted. The Panther team is a little more stacked this year with more wrestlers on the team. In the last couple of years, the team has suffered in tournaments due to only having 6-8 wrestlers.  Even though they don’t have a full team this year, they do have more wrestlers. Many of them have just came onto the team from the middle school program and are bringing new life to the team.

In this tournament, they looked a little like the team of old, tearing up the mats and making it to the final match for first place against Braxton County. Any time you get these two teams together, it’s a war.  It didn’t go well this time for the Panthers. However, the Panthers are a young team and will be a force to reckon with in a year or two. Braxton has the seasoned vets.  That being said, the Eagles beat the Panthers in this round and the Panthers took second in the tournament. It was a good start to the season for the Panthers. The mats are no place for the weak and no place for excuses, and the Panthers will definitely get the job done this year. Get out and support the wrestlers.
