CCMS wrestling is back in the headlines and setting fire to the mats after a few years of silence. No more, however; the mats are once again alive and the CCMS wrestling team is quickly becoming a powerhouse on the mat. The Mustangs have competed this year at several meets and have done pretty well considering the lay off. Thanks to new head coach Tyler Dorsey the beast has been resurrected within the walls of CCMS. The Mustangs are bringing their hunger to get back to the top of the food chain in the world of wrestling. It may take some time to get the glory back, but they are well on their way.
The Mustangs took to the mat at the Braxton County Middle Bash Duals on Saturday. There were 12 teams that competed and they were top of the line meat eater teams, the best of the best. Teams from Clay, Braxton, Logan, Western Greenbrier, Triadelphia, Webster, Gilmer, Beckley Stratton, Elkview, Paden City, Sissonville, and Blennerhassett all came to dish out some pain. It was a good ol’ fashioned whip down with plenty of great wrestling to go around. The wrestlers of Clay Middle went to work hitting the mats with guts and grit; they gave no quarter and asked for none in return.
The Mustangs was pinning shoulders to the mat but had a difficult time winning matches due to the shortage of wrestlers in different weight classes. However, the Mustangs did a whale of a job in the weight classes they could bring to the mat, and they definitely handed the other teams a tissue box in their matches. The Mustangs are making people turn their heads in this sport and are showing no signs of letting up. They will be back in action on January 14 at South Harrison Middle School.
In other wrestling news, the CCHS Panthers took to the mats at the National Guard Duals in Summersville this past week. Teams from all over the state and out of state came to compete. The Panthers did well in the tournament but didn’t place. The Panthers will be in action at the Winners’ Choice tournament on January 13th and 14th. Come out and support the teams.
