If you look for the definition of teamwork, this week it would have to include the Lady Panthers volleyball team. The girls definitely kicked in some ego this week on the courts.
If you want to beat them, you will have to pack a lunch, for sure. The Lady Panthers showed they can hold their own on the courts as they were pitted against two teams this past week who always are an all-out melee game of volleyball… Calhoun and Braxton.
The two teams are the biggest rivalries for Clay County, always have been and always will. Other than a game or two when the Lady Panthers were having off nights, they have methodically taken apart any team that has faced them, usually with a strong fan base on hand to watch.
They played like they typically do with kills, digs and serves, some of which had enough zip to knock down a small building. They also did it with finesse on the net and never allowed a ball to touch the ground without hitting the floor digging for it.
Serving the ball looked more like bullets finding dead center, some of which were so fast there was no reaction time for the other team. It was like watching clockwork when they played, with each girl giving 110 percent.
For the week, it was the Lady Panthers taking the match against Calhoun in three straight games. Next up was Braxton and the Lady Panthers did some hedge clipping, winning the first two games. They gave the Lady Eagles a break in the third game, losing that one but the fourth game was a no-nonsense game. They defeated the Lady Eagles three games to one. The Lady Panthers season is quickly coming to an end with the regular season games about over. Tuesday will be their last home match in a tri meet against Capitol and Lewis County; these will be some tough matches. Thursday night will be their last games of regular season when they travel to St. Mary’s for the LKC Championship. Go Lady Panthers!
