The Lady Panther softball team ended their season last week in a double elimination sectional tournament.

They were pitted first against the Lady Grizzlies of Nicholas County and then the Minutemaids of Lewis County.  One could see from the start it would be a long tournament for the Lady Panthers.

The first game went to Nicholas County. The Lady Panthers did a good job, but the Lady Grizzlies had one thing in mind and that was swinging for the fences.  The Lady Grizzlies would get runners on board and light the fence up with home runs.  The Lady Panthers scored and played some good defense, but errors will cut into your momentum.  The Lady Panthers dropped the first game by the score of 9-18.

It was the Lewis County Minutemaids up the next day at Lewis County.  As good as they played, it was not to be this year for the Lady Panthers as they lost the second game and were eliminated from the tournament.  Final score was Clay 2, Lewis County 6.  The Lady Panthers finished this season and went down swinging.

Looking back, it was a tough year, but the team is young and will be back next season to rule the diamond.  There’s no doubt they will be stronger, and perhaps next year will hold a different result.  The Lady Mustangs will go into the CWVAC tournament this week at Braxton Middle School.  Good luck Lady Mustangs!
