The CCHS volleyball team is back with a vengeance. If the Lady Panthers beat down style of volleyball could be bottled as a vaccine, it would be the ultimate cure for COVID-19. They are playing as if they were the ones to beat and their level of play has surpassed any team that has come against them. They have an arsenal on the floor and on the bench as was proven this past week. Alyssa Deal, who is a big part of the team, went out with an ankle injury against the volleyball powerhouse AAA Lady Redskins of Hurricane.
The Lady Panther bench drank a can of whip butt and got on the floor and took care of business. The Lady Redskins didn’t know what hit them. The Lady Panthers won the first game 25-21, and in the second game went the distance but came short of the wins in the second and third games. They turned on the fan in the fourth and fifth games winning the matches 25-22 and 15-11. The Lady Panthers are playing like a championship team bound for great things. Next up was supposed to be a tri match on Thursday evening but only Poca could show up. It was not a night to show because the Lady Panthers beat them in three straight, sending them packing. There were looks of unbelief as ball after heated ball came over the net looking for heads to roll. The Lady Panthers have resurrected something that looks like they cannot be messed with.
Total Stats for the games are as follows for the week: top guns were Alesia McMillion with 24, Jacey Collins with 20 and Ivy Taylor with 19. The top cat was Jacey Collins with 38 digs. Leading the assists was Abbie Moore with 61. Jacey Collins also was top ace with seven. The Lady Panthers will be in action again this week at some point; the schedule can change from one day to the next. So, if you want to see some great volleyball, check with the school to see what games are scheduled. As of now it will be Calhoun on Wednesday night, and on Thursday evening, it will be a tri match against Hurricane and Buffalo. It would be nice to see them return to the regional championships and then back to the state competition. Go Lady Panthers!
