The Lady Panthers opened their season against the Lady Bulldogs of Doddridge County Friday night.
The Lady Panthers came into this game with a new team with some old fashioned, butt whipping, schooling in basketball. There was no ball and chain dragging behind them as they took to the court and dominated.
With defense that would resemble an all out ant assault on a cube of sugar, there was no clear opening to the hoop for the Lady Bulldogs. Most of the time they didn’t get the ball past half court as the Lady Panthers, with hands as fast as lightning, stole the ball and upset the game plan of Doddridge County, and they never could recover. The Harlem Globetrotters would have had a tough time getting a clear shot through the Lady Panther defense.
Offensively, the Lady Panthers pounded the boards with pinpoint accuracy. There wasn’t a player on the team that wasn’t a threat when they shot in this game. Five of the Lady Panthers were in the double digits. Sarah Boggs gets the Robin Hood award for the team by racking up 17 points and was a force under the basket on defense. She was followed by Erica Boggs with 15 points, Kacey Butcher with 12, Kaleigh Brown with 11 and Makayla Horrocks with 10.
All the Lady Panthers did an excellent job of navigating the court and played well as a team. The season looks bright for the Lady Panthers. If Coach Ramsey can keep this fiery pace going with the Lady Panthers as it was in this game, who knows, maybe a record season.
The final score stood at Lady Panthers 92, Lady Bulldogs 30. Keep it up Lady Panthers.
The Lady Panthers will be back at home against Braxton County on Wednesday with a game time of 7:30 p.m.
