The Lady Mustangs have officially opened their season with a bang against the Lady Tigers of Walton.
The JV started first, and it was all out ball on both sides of the court. There wasn’t much in the way of scoring, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying. At the end of the long JV game with just seconds left to play, the Lady Mustangs had a chance to pull ahead being down one point.
They put the ball in play and after several attempts at the hoop, the Lady Mustangs fell short with a final score Lady Mustangs JV 8, Lady Tigers 9.
It was time for the Lady Mustang Varsity to hit the floor running. Shaylee Robinson came out firing on all cylinders and led the Lady Mustangs in scoring with 14 points followed by Julia Holcomb with 10 points. It was a fast-paced game, and the Lady Mustangs defense held the Lady Tigers to just 12 points.
Speaking of defense, Jacey Collins was a beast under the boards grabbing 10 rebounds and stealing the ball nine times. The ace for the Lady Tigers was Darla Anderson, who had 6 points.
The final score in the varsity game was Lady Mustangs 33, Walton 12. The Lady Mustangs will be back in action Thursday at home against Spencer with a game time 6 p.m.
