It was a bittersweet time this week as the Lady Mustangs and the Lady Panthers played their final game on the old Bradley Field.

The field will finally get its makeover that has been needed since the flood in June 2016.  If Bradley Field could talk, it might tell tales of weekend softball games that brought life to the field.  Many now gray haired people with limbs that don’t move the way they used to enjoyed many of those games. Time moves on, however, and a new field will soon grace the river bottom and many more games will be played. So long old Bradley Field, enjoy the makeover and upgrades that are coming your way.

The Lady Mustangs had no problem this past week racking up a couple of wins. They brought out the big sticks and a sack of great pitching against Cross Lanes Christian earlier in the week and sent them to the loser’s circle by the score of 8-5.  It was then Spencer’s turn as they came to town on a mission, and with a dugout that sounded more like a soccer fan club, they were fired up.  The Lady Mustangs were fired up, as well, and fought tooth and nail until the last pitch was thrown.  It was a double header and the weather was perfect.  The Lady Mustangs had a four run 3rd inning due largely in part by Spencer’s wild throwing.  The Lady Yellow Jackets managed three runs late in the game but couldn’t get the one hit they needed; they lost the first game 4-3.  Laila Varney notched 16 more strikeouts in the game.  In the second game, mistakes happened, and it gave the Lady Mustangs their first loss of the season as the Lady Yellow Jackets won the game 3-4.

These were fitting last games to be played on the old field as it was edge of your seat action.  The Lady Mustangs will be road trippin’ for the rest of the season.  So, grab you a schedule and hit a couple of games. The Lady Mustangs are a good team and this may be their year.   Go Lady Mustangs!
