Best of luck to Clay County Middle School’s Track & Field team as its season gets underway on April 15 at Roane County High School. As with other spring sports, due to the pandemic, the season started a little later than usual. Practice began on March 22. However, the athletes have been working hard every day to get into the best shape possible by the first meet.
The team is made up of twenty-four members: eighth graders Jana Adkins, Sawyer Dobbins, Tristina LaFever, Jonathan Nida, Lexi Phillips, Takota Quinn and Evie Young; seventh graders Sam Cleavenger, Jackson Cliver, Alex Davison, Kaden Fitzwater, Logan Lautzenheiser, Ely Metheney, Kyle Neal, Justin Nida, Daymian Pappas, Ashley Roberts, Shane Tracy, and Mason Wray; and sixth graders Adrian Davison, Cayden Meadows, Jayda Pappas, Brody Scarbro, and Luke Scarbro. Head Coach Philip Dobbins and assistant coach Alex Keiffer have high expectations for this group.
Following the Roane Meet, the team will travel to Charleston on April 27 to compete in the Laidley Field Invitational, again to Laidley Field on April 29 to compete in the McKinley Invitational, to Spencer on May 1 to compete in the Walton Tiger Invitational, and back to Laidley Field on May 4 for the Elkview Invitational. The CWVAC Conference Meet will be at Roane County High School on May 14.
Despite the fact that the season may look a little different this year due to masks, social distancing guidelines, and a condensed schedule, the coaches, athletes and fans are looking forward to a healthy, successful season.
