Three Calhoun County school employees have filed a lawsuit against the county’s board of education and the state board of education over the cancellation of spring break. According to the paperwork filed in Kanawha County Circuit Court Monday, on February 27 the Calhoun Board of Education changed the week of March 17-March 21 from out of calendar days to instructional days. Out of calendar days are uncompensated days off. Apparently the three employees had made travel plans for that week, known as spring break, and did not learn of the change of schedule until March 5. Instructional days lost to winter weather caused the schedule to change in an effort to benefit students.

Kelley Sampson, one of the three employees who filed lawsuits, dropped her suit on Thursday saying she was misinformed. The remaining two lawsuits are still active.
