A former Federal corrections officer appeared in court in Fayette County Monday to face felony drug charges. James Butcher, 41, was arrested in August 2013 when he and his girlfriend, Misty Goodwin, were caught purchasing prescription pills in Clay County then transporting the pills to Fayette County to sell. After a search warrant at the couple’s home netted prescription pills, a large amount of cash and firearms, both Butcher and Goodwin were arrested in Fayette County, WV and charged with delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and conspiracy to commit a felony.

In Fayette County Circuit Court on Monday, James Butcher pled guilty to the felony charge of delivery of a controlled substance. As part of the agreement, the other felony charges against Butcher were dropped. Butcher faces between 1 and 15 years in prison as well as a $25,000.00 fine when he is sentenced on March 10. His girlfriend, Misty Goodwin, is still awaiting a court date.
