Battle of Bulltown reenactment slated for weekend

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Burnsville Lake in Burnsville, in partnership with Wise’s Legion, an authentic Civil War living history organization, and the Friends of Burnsville Lake will host a living history weekend that begins Oct. 7 and will wrap up with a reenactment of the Battle of Bulltown on Oct. 9 at the Bulltown Historic Area.
Festivities begin Friday, Oct. 7, with a Kid’s Day Event at 9 a.m. Fifth grade students from Braxton County will take a walk back into the Civil War era with stations including camp life, tours of the historic structures, the Cunningham farmstead, the Civil War battlefield, cannon and artillery demonstrations, museum information, as well as gardening and preservation.
Activities for Saturday that are open to the public include viewing of field tactical for troops, a Confederate Memorial Service, and a lunch  of beans and cornbread that will be made available for purchase by the Friends of Burnsville Lake.
Saturday, from 8 p.m.-10 p.m., there will be live old time music Civil War Ball that will be open to the public at the Interpretive Shelter in the Bulltown Campground. There is no charge for this event, and period dress is not a requirement.
Sunday, the day of the battle, begins at 7 a.m. for the troops, and a 10 a.m. church service will be open to the public and held at the St. Michael’s Church. The battle will take place from 2-3 p.m.
