Story and photos by Connie Kerr
The Clay County High School Art Department would like to thank everyone who was involved in making the 2016 Clay County Golden Delicious Art Auction successful. I would like to thank the art students for their hard work and dedication.
We want to thank the volunteers that helped the day of the auction, and the community, as well as out-of-state people, and parents for buying our students’ artwork. A special thank you to Natalie Tennant and Roger and Kristen Hanshaw for their purchase. Also, Jerry and Joretta Butcher for making sure all of our pictures were purchased. We appreciate each and every one of the purchases as well as your continued support.
We would like to extend a special thanks to auctioneer Jeannie Davis for volunteering her time and expertise. We would also like to thank the spotters: Marlene Lewis, Michelle Frame, Frankie Kerr, and Sandy Potasnik. We are thankful for the use of the county commission room and the Golden Delicious Apple Festival Committee for this wonderful opportunity and for supplying the competition ribbons. We would also like to thank our judges: Angela Nicholas, Regina King, and Jerry Stover, for their time and expertise. And, a special Thanks to Frank Kerr for all of his help and support.
Again, I would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the students for their hard work and especially to the helpers that came to help the day of the auction. The sale went smoothly because of all of you

The money generated from the Art Auction will all go to the students. The art department supplies all of the materials needed to complete the student’s projects. The students receive half of the money paid for each of their two pieces of art that were sold, and the art department received half of the money.
The art department also receives the money for the donated pieces. The art students will receive a pizza party, a field trip, the cash prizes, and many art supplies will be purchased by the art department.
The art department also presents a scholarship for $500each year to a student who is pursuing a career in the arts. This year’s recipient was sophomore Megan Johnson, who is pursuing a degree in photography at Cleveland Institute of Art.
Thank you very much for helping
to make it all possible.
