The Best of West Virginia is pleased to announce it will soon present the ninth annual Best of West Virginia Open Juried Exhibition in the David L. Dickirson Fine Arts Gallery. The exhibition will run from June 19 to Aug. 7 with an opening reception on Sunday, June 19 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. It is during this time that the David L. Dickirson Best in Show ($2,000), second place ($1,000), third place ($500), and award of merit ($250) winners will be announced. These awards are made possible through the generosity of the Tamarack Foundation for the Arts and its donors.
Every year, TAMARACK: The Best of West Virginia and the Tamarack Foundation for the Arts celebrate West Virginia artists and artisans by showcasing their creativity, diversity and talent in this special juried competition. This year’s collection will incorporate numerous media categories including painting, photography, blown glass, ceramics, woodworking, printmaking, fibers and more by 81 artists.
The works that will be featured in the 2016 Best of West Virginia Open Juried Exhibition were selected by Marcia Goldenstein, professor emeritus of painting and drawing at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and Carmen Grier, studio artist and instructor in Mitchell County, North Carolina. Pieces from the following artists were chosen for this year’s exhibition: Homaira Ahmed, Putnam Co.; Dick Allowatt, Kanawha Co.; Jeffrey Almond, Raleigh Co.; Colleen Anderson, Kanawha Co.
