What is Truth?

Are truth and the facts the same?  What is the difference?  Let me give you an illustration.  A few days ago I heard a grandfather give a testimony of something that had happened dear to his heart.
His first grandchild, a beautiful little girl was born and in a period of three days it was discovered that she had 22 tumors on her heart.  A few days later they found 20 tumors on her brain.  The picture was very grim.  The prognosis was that her likelihood of survival was very slim and if she survived at all she would never be able to walk or talk.  Devastating to say the least.  That was 5 years ago.  What happened?  The family, devout Christians turned to God and believed what His Word declared.  Result?
I don’t know how long it took, but that beautiful little girl was on the stage at Dollywood singing about the love of God and healed by the stripes of Jesus.
It was an undeniable fact that the tumors were there.  That was the fact of the matter.  Facts however are not necessarily the truth.  Facts change.  Take the weather for example.  Hot changes to cold.  Sunshine changes to cloudy.  The truth, however, does not change.  The sun is constantly sending light and heat to us regardless of what we are experiencing day to day.  God’s Word is truth.  He is the same yesterday, today and forever.  Our circumstances change.  Our lives are sometimes like a roller coaster.  One day we are climbing and then next seems like we are falling.
Israel was in slavery in Egypt.  That was a fact.  However, God had made a promise to Abraham and that fact was going to change because God had spoken and He never changes.  The change was not instant.  It took 400 years before it happened, but happen it did.  It wasn’t Moses nor was it Joshua.  It wasn’t even Abraham.  It was God.  Benjamin Franklin said that the longer he lived the more convinced he was that God governs in the affairs of men.  Want to know the truth?  Read the Bible.  Want to know the facts?  Listen to the news, it changes every day.  You have the opportunity of choosing what you believe.  2 Tim. 1:12 says in part…..”I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.”  How about you?
Maranatha!
