Neither cold nor hot but lukewarm

It was a church to whom Jesus spoke when he said, Behold I stand at the door and knock if any man hear my voice and open the door I will come in to him and will sup with him and he with me. Revelation 3:20.

A mortician can make a dead man look better dead than he looked while he was living. Could this be the reason many of our churches have never looked better and been so dead? Some people try to cover their sins from their pastor or their relatives this is all that matters. I suggest you read the seventh chapter of Joshua to see how God deals with those who attempt to cover their sins. Many of today churches compromise with sin. This is pictured in the last church age in chapter three of the book of revelation.

The Laodicea church was neither cold nor hot, but lukewarm and Jesus was on the outside knocking and wanting to come in. Compromise is the greatest tool the devil has today in his war against the church. The cry of the world is, It must be alright, for everybody is doing it. How sad it is to see individuals and churches compromising with sin. God is a spirit and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth, see John 4:23-24. Oh yes they’re still going through the motions or worship but the spirit, power, and excitement is gone. Why? Because of compromising with sin. God wants the best for you but you have to play by the rules. Many Christians today seem to laugh and joke and take a light view of sin and compromise with sin.

However, you may be sure that sin is a serious matter with God. The Bible calls sin a mystery.

Perhaps the reason for this is that sin manifests itself in so many ways. All the sorrow all the grief, all the violence, all the disgrace, heartache and shame of man’s history can be summed up in one little word, sin.

It is a timeless truth that God hates sin and is unwilling to compromise with it. God hates sin and loves obedience. God wants us to have pure hearts, not hypocritical outward shows of piety. To live under sin is bondage to live by faith is freedom. Christian are not bound by sin. Christ has set us free. Liberty is not license to continue in sin. The Christian’s power to live victoriously over sin comes from the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit’s leading us from sin’s bondage. Remember you cannot live wrong and die right.
