By Quindora Dobbins

A young man became a Christian claiming Jesus as his personal savior. He then began going to a new church that taught new and different ways than he had been taught as a child. One morning after Sunday School he came home and sat down on the porch and began talking to his Grandfather about what he had learned. He explained that he did not have to live that strict life style that had been taught, he could live any way he wanted according to the new Bible that his church members had written. In fact they were now dead but the bible was so awesome they kept using it.

The young man had gone to church there for about six weeks when he came home one Sunday afternoon with a very sad expression. When his Grandfather asked what the problem was he answered “My new church says I have to wear only the color gray, no jewelry, I have to sell my car and give the money to the church and live in the compound of which I am not happy about.

His Grandfather asked if he wanted some advice, and the young man shook his head yes. Grandfather said “First of all when the Prodigal son returned a robe was placed on him and a ring on his finger. Secondly, the Lord said it was his pleasure to give us good gifts. So why would he give them then just take them right back and give them to the church? Giving one tenth is one thing but giving all you own is another. As for your living arrangement, I think you need to stay right where you are and if you quit your job who is going to pay back your college loan? I’m sure not.

Grandfather then said, “Now as for your church and Bible, I ask you what’s wrong with your King James Version? You was raised based on that book and it worked very well, so, why change a good thing?  Son, read what Jesus said in St. John 5:39 – “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal live; and they are they which testify of me.”

His Grandfather concluded with this “God is the rock of all the ages and I trust him and you will find this in Joshua 24:15 And if it seems evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”   The young man agreed.
