1 Samuel 18:1-3 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house. Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

How many friends do you have? I mean real friends; not fair weather friends or those fly by nighters who pat you on the back with one hand and stab you with the other. A true friend is one who will stick by you in the good times as well as the bad. A true friend will love you regardless of what you have or what you may do. A true friend is one who is a friend for life. Proverbs 17:17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. Though you drift apart over time, a true friend will never forget you.

The Lord Jesus is just that kind of friend to both sinner and saint. Friendship is the highest form of human love and the closest form of human relationship. John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. If you have been born again, you can take consolation and assurance that you have been saved from the wrath of God because of your friend Jesus Christ. Jesus was a friend to the lost sheep while he hung on the cross of Calvary and shed His own precious blood, suffered at the hands of wicked men and died for their sins. Romans 5:7-8 “For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” JESUS IS NOT A FRIEND TO THE WORLD OR OF THE WORLD: Yes, Jesus is a friend of sinners, but not a friend of the world. We are told not to be friends of the world. 1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. The world is certainly not your friend. Many Christian religions today are compromising with the world in order to make friends. The devil will not compromise and to make friends with the world is to make friends with the Devil. The Bible says to be a friend of the world is to be an enemy of God. John 15:18-19

If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before [it hated] you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. He is sly and subtle, and will make you think that he is your friend, but he is really the enemy of both sinner and saint. Proverbs 18:24 A man [that hath] friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend [that] sticketh closer than a brother. That friend dear one is the Lord Jesus Christ.
