Burnsville, WV – Serena Tolbert Hathaway, 90, of Burnsville, WV, went to be with the Lord on April 17, 2015 at Braxton County Memorial Hospital, surrounded by loved ones after a short illness. She was a stay at home mother who will be forever missed by her family and friends.
She was born to Scott and Virginia Davison Nicholas at Ivydale, WV, who precede her in death. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Varis C. Hathaway, whom she married on September 13, 1947.
Serena enjoyed gardening, canning, and was always proud of her stocked cellar. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and watching humming birds.
She is survived by her beloved foster son, Junior Beckett (Jimmie) of Montgomery, MI; daughters, Beverly Pritt (David) of Sand Fork, WV, Lois Stewart (Gene) of Burnsville, WV, and Barbara Bailes (Mac) of Sutton, WV. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Darrell Beckett of Albertsville, AL, Dennis Beckett of Inster, MI, Serena Adkins of South Gate, MI, Timothy Beckett of Livonia, MI, David Pritt of Martinsburg, WV, Christopher Bailes of Wheeling, WV, and Thomas Marks of Glenville, WV; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sister, Norma King of Valley Fork, WV; special cousin, Thelma Beckett of Clay, WV; several nieces and nephews. Also missing Serena are special family friends, Malcolm and Lurenda Allison and children of Sand Fork, WV. The family would like to thank Dr. Darla Gant for the years of treatment and the Braxton County Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care that she received during her illness.
Family received friends at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home 378 Flatwoods Corner Road, Flatwoods, WV 26621 on Monday, April 20, 2015 from 6-8p.m. A private funeral service and interment will be held for family.
