Russell R. Burdette, Jr., 81, of Wallback went home to be with the Lord Saturday, February 25, 2023, at home after a short illness.

He was born on September 26, 1941, the son of the late Russell Burdette, Sr. and Naomi Neal Burdette.

He was retired from the Clay County Board of Education Maintenance Dept. after 30 years of service. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Wallback.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Karen Hinkle Burdette; brothers-in-law, Wayne (Eva) Hinkle of Wallback, Willard (Kay) Hinkle of Mohawk, TN and sister-in-law, Patty Workman of Parkersburg; along with special nieces by marriage, Kelli, Lori and Melani.

Russell was a survivor of two kidney transplants. They both enjoyed taking their antique vehicles to car shows and doing projects around the house. He was a carpenter by trade and also a graduate of Clay County High School, Class of 1959.

A graveside service was held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at the Sams Cemetery at Procious, WV, with Pastor Wayne Smith Officiating.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.carlwilsonfuneralhome.com.

Wilson Smith Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Burdette family.
