Roger Lyn Childers

Childers, Roger-1Fairmont, WV – Roger Lyn Childers, 63, of Fairmont went to be with the Lord Monday, November 4, 2013 at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport after a sudden illness.
He was born in Clay County, WV on August 12, 1950, a son of Jesse Childers of Ivy Dale, WV and the late Josephine (Sanders) Childers.
Roger was a coalminer by trade, recently retiring from Patriot Coal Federal #2 Mine where he worked as a long-wall supervisor.  He had been captain of the mine rescue team at Central Appalachian Coal Company.  He was a graduate of Clay County High School and attended the WV Institute of Technology.  He was a Christian who loved Jesus and spending time with his family.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Marilyn (Morris) Childers of Fairmont, one daughter, Rachel Childers Sealey and her fiancé Jason Nestor of Fairmont and three grandchildren, Christopher Sealey II, Paige Younkins and Shighla Childers.
Also surviving is a brother, Tim Childers and his wife Sandy of Belle, WV, three sisters, Donetta Looney and her husband David of Tupelo, MS, Jenetta Thoms of Sistersville and Joetta Linville and her husband, BJ, of South Charleston as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a beloved son, Jonathan Eric Childers.
Family and friends called at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St. Fairmont on Friday from 1-8 pm and Saturday from 10-11 am.  The funeral service was held in the funeral home on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11 am with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating.  Interment followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fairmont.
